Our history in Monaco
An international heritage
The story of the Indosuez group, from the founding of Compagnie Universelle du Canal Maritime de Suez in 1858 to the establishment of Banque de l’Indochine in 1875, has been written with an international vision since the very beginning. This story spans Europe, Asia and the Middle East and speaks of our openness to the world, reflecting that seen in Monaco.
Our story in the Principality begins in 1922 with the founding of Crédit Foncier de Monaco by sovereign order of Prince Louis II, with the support of local investors and the input of two leading Monegasque figures: Henri Marquet, an electrical engineer in charge of the Société d’Etudes pour l’Expansion Economique (Economic Expansion Research Centre) in Monaco, and Charles Berragain, who was also Vice-Chairman of the Caisse Centrale des Banques Populaires in France.
Our bank’s history is inseparable from the growth of the Principality, reflecting a century of mutual commitment between Monaco and what was to become CFM Indosuez.
A longstanding tradition of excellence
Our history is shaped by our integration with other leading institutions over time, driven by the constant commitment to better serve our clients.
Banque de l’Indochine became a shareholder alongside prominent Monegasque families in the late 1960s, which was followed by the creation of Banque Indosuez in 1975, securing our entry into Crédit Agricole group in 1996.
Additional local mergers followed:
- Banque Sudameris’ Monaco branch in 2004,
- the Monegasque business of Citibank and Crédit Lyonnais in 2004,
- HSBC in 2016 with a referral agreement for their clients in Monaco.
Our history is now shared with that of Crédit Agricole group’s other Wealth Management entities within the Indosuez group around the world.
